Is workplace chaplaincy for you?

Workplace Chaplaincy focuses on the importance of the work people do and the key part all economic activity plays in the world. It seeks ways of engaging with workers, and the economic structures and processes that shape their experience whilst at work – believing that God cares about the work people do, how they do it and what that means for their lives.

It is a ministry of sharing God’s care and compassion in the context of work – acknowledging the stresses and sorrows, as well as the joys and fulfilment of work. And it is also about exploring, with those they meet, matters of justice, fairness and the use and abuse of power in economic activity – seeking God’s Kingdom in this vital aspect of human society.

Workplace chaplains are mostly volunteers, supported by their church as part of its mission in the local community. It is invariably an ecumenical ministry – a common task undertaken with those from other churches – and in many places it is organised through local or regional teams of chaplains, set up for that purpose by Churches Together partnerships.
